Common Stories, Common Ground

We believe that forgiveness is potentially a “lost virtue” in today’s world. Conversations about forgiveness, which often took places in homes and communal gatherings, are virtually absent from public spaces. This absence undermines a commitment to community.  Our hopes are to recover these conversations and open new arenas for dialogue.  Our research team seeks to explore forgiveness as it is perceived, struggled with, and acted out by everyday people. Many concepts appear in these conversations, for example, unresolved anger, barriers to forgiveness, religion, reconciliation, and the complexity of relationships.
